The MACDANCERS are an elite performing group of very young dancers. They are culled from the student body by the following criteria:
The Four A's. Attendance - Attitude - Ability - Age
In order to be part of this special workshop the student must exhibit an interest in dance beyond the average student. This interest is generally reflected by their attendance in classes and their attitude while in class.
That is, they are focused, ready to dance, eager to learn and enthusiastic about their lessons. Their natural or developed abilities must be strong - or the potential for such abilities, and they must meet certain age requirements: at least seven years old but not older than ten.
Dancers either audition or are selected from regular classes for this group. The MACDANCERS often perform at various functions, are featured in our recital each year along with PJMC and Pumping Metal Tappers, and enjoy their position as 'ambassadors of good will' toward other students and dancers and parents who may be new to the school.
The MACDANCERS, along with their parents, are required to sign a contract for a full year, which outlines their responsibilities, what they are to accomplish and what they can expect from their special workshop. Their training is intensive, and deliberate, quite beyond what one may expect from the restrictions of 'regular' classes due to time constraints. They all study tap, jazz and ballet, and many are in the Highland Dancing program. The program director is Susan Eskridge.
