MacKinnon Dance Academy has been ‘turning-out’ dance students in the City of Oxnard since 1976. During that time, thousands of dancers have experienced the wonder, exhilaration, discipline, and joy of expressing themselves through the art of dance. I am proud to offer the opportunity to study dance to all members of our community. MacKinnon’s has students of every race, every color, every body-type, and every skill level who happily fit in to the total scheme of ‘dance is for all to enjoy’. 

Five years ago we moved from our Wagon Wheel facility to our new home at the Palm’s Shopping Center in Oxnard, and since then we have also expanded. We now occupy 6500 square feet of space in which to train our dancers. My staff of dedicated professionals are completely devoted to instructing their students. They take the time to plan their classes, carefully select their music (age appropriateness is a must at MacKinnon’s) and to bring their enthusiasm and knowledge into the classroom for each session.

Students as young as three years-old begin their dance life at MacKinnon’s, and many continue through high school and even college. Our curriculum includes classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Polynesian (taught by Kealoha Rameriz), and Scottish Highland Competitive Dancing. We are the only school in Ventura County that offers Scottish Dancing.

Many of our students have gone on to pursue careers in dance or dance-related endeavors. Most take their dance training with them to support their excellence in other areas. Dance study produces individuals who also acquire additional attributes in life, for example: enhanced self-esteem, confidence, poise, teamwork and elevated social skills.

Our classes begin and end on time, the staff is friendly and welcoming, the classrooms are bright and comfortable and the lessons are comprehensive and detailed.

We offer beginning and advanced classes for both children and adults.

Joy is a member of The Oxnard Chamber of Commerce, The British Association of Teacher's of Dance, and The Federation of United States Teachers and Adjuicators (FUSTA). In addition she supports local programs and charitable works such as (SNAC) Senior Nutrition Action Council, FOODSHARE, the State Street Ballet Company, American Arthritis Association and others.  Although she no longer regularly performs Joy is also a past member of (NADAA) National Association of Dance and Affiliated Artists and (AGVA) American Guild of Variety Artists.
